To all the incredible single Mums on Mother’s Day…

I know it’s hard to celebrate you when you have to blow up your own balloons…

Buy your own card and gift too, when the thoughtful acts are all from you,

Mother’s Day lunch is hard to prepare, when it’s you in front of the stove,

When you realise you forgot the eggs, but you only have you to send to the store,

At times you think, “is it even worth it?”, setting up the table to celebrate yourself,

But then a glimpse of the person who you made you a mother, brings it all to a halt,

Whether they are 5 or 15, grown or still young, you are worth every ounce of celebration, because it’s through you that they are,

You were there to teach them kindness, when the world was so cruel to you,

You were there to help them stand up for themselves, because you know how hard it is to do,

You were there through the nights, cradling them to sleep, with a bucket in one hand, because you know it’s you cleaning the sheets,

It was you who they waved goodbye to, on their first day of school, a constant in every chapter, it was always you,

So celebrate you Mama, even if you blow up your own balloons, buy your own card and gift too amongst all the other things you do,

Because for the person who made you a Mama, you’re everything and more, you’re love and compassion and strength and resilience, you’re a constant, the only, and deserving of this day and more…

Happy Mother’s Day, I hope you have a beautiful day <3
